The Pichelsteinerfest in Regen is one of the largest, oldest and most traditional Fests in Lower Bavaria. From 30th July to 4th August 2010, it will attract many thousands of visitors.
More than 30 bands will be playing and the many visitors will enjoy the numerous fairground rides and stands on the 2 large festival grounds. The festival is well known over a wide area also because of its accompanying programme and the Pichelsteinereintopf speciality.
The Pichelsteinereintopf is as much a part of the Regen Fest as the pretzel is elsewhere, with as many as 3,000 portions served and eaten within an hour on Pichelsteiner Monday. The recipe for the stew, which gave its name to the Fest, can be found in numerous cookery books.
The gondola trips on the river are also unique in the Bavarian Forest, with the many boats carefully decorated according to a different theme each year. The signs at the entrance to the town attract many guests to the water fountains. Water is shot 35 meters into the air by various jets and fountains and several hundred floodlights illuminate the water and the river banks.
Other highlights of the Fest week include the procession of Fest cooks, waitresses and school children as ‚young cooks’, the procession of decorated wagons and 10 horse wagon from the brewery as well as the final firework display.
