Walkers can use a comprehensive network of paths in and around Regen to enjoy the fresh forest air, make whole day hikes to the peaks of the Bavarian Forest and get to know interesting places on the way: After all, the Bavarian Forest is famous as a „Mecca” for walkers.
The numerous thousand meter high mountains such as the Arber, Falkenstein, Rachel or Geißkopf offer walkers breathtaking views of forests and mountain ranges, varied routes traverse high ground and moors or follow the banks of mountain lakes.
Ancient treasures and more can be discovered by walkers who choose walks with particular themes. The Gold Route, which goes from Marktredwitz to Passau and with 3 legs through the Oberpfalz and Bavarian Forest, is, for example, the longest certified distance path in Germany.
Long distance paths offer the possibility of experiencing the Bavarian Forest in a number of one day stages. There are not many towns which have paths passing right through the centre. The small town of Regen has many: on 13 well signposted health walks in and around Regen, walkers can experience the ancient landscape of the Bavarian Forest and also get to know the sights and loveliest aspects of Regen.
Most walks start in the heart of Regen – at the town square. Walkers are spoilt for choice: anyone who wants to stretch their legs between lunch and tea will be able to find something suitable. With more time available, one can take a longer route or even a full day’s walk to experience what Regen has to offer. Many walks offer entertainment especially for families with children, others are ideal for art lovers, nature lovers or seniors. Regen also offers excellent guided walks: guide Herbert Mundl has received many awards for his walks and makes nature especially interesting for walkers.
